Tour De Pakistan 2012

Tour de Pakistan

The 17th Tour de Pakistan Cycling Race, also known as the ‘longest race in Asia’, will start this year from Mizar-e-Quaid Karachi on March 23 and will finish on April 4 at Khyber Pass Peshawar, after crossing a record distance of 1674 kilometer, said by Secretary Pakistan Cycling Federation Syed Azhar Ali Shah.

Many foreigners cyclist from Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Iran, South Africa,Qatar, UAE and Saudi Arabia are expected to participate in the event, as it is an International event.

The cyclists will go through major cities of the country covering the distance of 1674 KM in 11 days. The cyclists will take two-days rest en route with one-day at Rahimyar Khan and the other at Lahore.

Tour De Pakistan Introduction:

Tour de Pakistan is a bicycle race held in Pakistan every year, with a distance of 1,648 kilometres (1,024 mi). It is modelled after the Tour de France. The race starts from Karachi and ends in Peshawar. It is the longest cycling race in Asia. The event used to be is 22 stages long and 2200 kilometre in length, but in 2007 it was reduced to 1648 kilometre and 11 stages.

Muhammad Sabir Ali from WAPDA won the 16th Tour de Pakistan cycle, which completed in Abbottabad on Sunday. The race started from Karachi with the 56 cyclists covering the total distance of 1660 kilometres. All the players showed an outstanding performance in the race. South Asian Games silver medalist, Sabir Ali completed his triumph with an overall time of 44 hours, 35 minutes and 45 seconds.

Muhammad Ibrahim, also from WAPDA earned second position, his time was 44 hours, 38 minutes and 25 seconds and Sultan Aftab, from Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) clinched the third spot with the timing of 44 hours, 38 minutes and 54 seconds.

Previously, 24-year-old Sabir won the first two levels but unfortunately, lost in the next two. On the other hand, Mohammad Asif won the third and fourth stage of 16th Tour de Pakistan. The Tour favourite, Sabir Ali did not lose his hopes and won the fifth and sixth stage. He built upon his lead by winning the seventh stage of the competition.

After winning the overall race, Sabir was very happy with the victory. This is Sabir’s first victory out of his previous four attempts.

Mohammad Sabir said while talking to the reporters, “I was chasing a dream and it came true, I worked very hard to make sure that I lift the trophy this year. I sacrificed a lot for it and it has paid off well” he added “I waited for three years to get here. I knew I will win the event when I won the first two stages.”

The 11th stage of Tour de Pakistan was won by the Mohammad Rafiq of Pakistan Army. He covered the distance of 150 kilometres in 3 hours, 39 minutes and 23 seconds. Mohammad Ibrahim from WAPDA claimed second position with the timing of 3 hours, 39 minutes and 33 seconds while Haroon Rashid from WAPDA was in third position with the timing of 3 hours, 39 minutes and 43 seconds.

Tour de Pakistan is the biggest National event for the cyclists in Pakistan. Sabir is currently working with WAPDA and after winning the race, his chances of promotion have increased massively. As a result, he can also apply for International events.

Overall, WAPDA took the first position ahead of SSGC, Army, Afghanistan, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA. Mohammad Sabir won the prize money of $2500 while runner up Mohammad Ibrahim received $2000 and Sultan Aftab got $1500. The remaining amount of $5000 was disturbed amongst the other cyclists.

The other top finishers apart from the top three, along with their timings were;

Niamat Ali (SSGC) 44hrs.39min:5sec, Haroon Rasheed (WAPDA) 44hrs.42min:35sec, Mohammad Rafiq (Army) 44hrs.42min:49sec, Mohammad Asif (Sindh), Nisar Ahmad (SSGC), Zamir Ahmad (SSGC) and Zahid Mehmood (Army).

Haroon returned a timing of 3H, 44M and 1 sec to reach Lahore after starting the 178 kilometer long stage from Sahiwal. Altogether 46 riders set off on a tough journey and Haroon exhibited superior technique and stamina to leave behind all the riders. SSGC’s Farooq with a timing of 3 hours, 44 minutes and 11 seconds grabbed the second spot. WAPDA’s Sabir grabbed the third place with 3 hours, 44 minutes and 21 seconds. Afghanistan’s Hashmat Ullah secured fourth spot with 3 hours, 44 minutes and 31 seconds.

Muhammad Sabir of Wapda wins the 6th stage of Tour De Pakistan cycle race. After a one day rest 6th stage of race was started from Bahawalpur to Multan. Sabir crossed the finished line in 2H 36M 34secs, the distance of 90 KM. Two cyclyists were disqualified due to technical reasons.
7th stage is from Multan to Sahiwal with the distance of 176 KM

Asif Ali of Sindh won the fourth stage of the Tour de Pakistan cycle race on Friday when the participants of the race traveled from Sukkur to Rahimyar Khan. Asif secured the first position covering a distance of 178 km in 5H, 10 M, 42 Secs.

Mohammad Rafiq of Pakistan Army came second with a difference of ten seconds while Mohammad Zahid also from Army finished on third.

Meanwhile, the race was interrupted for 23 minutes due to strike in Sindh on an appeal from the People’s Party.

The participants of the race after taking rest for a day will proceed from Rahimyar Khan to Bahawalpur to cross a distance of 200 km. This will be the longest phase of the tour de Pakistan race.

16th international tour de Pakistan race, third stage was won by Muhammad Asif of Sindh. 3rd stage was from Morro to Sukhur, the distance of 150KM was covered in 4H 16M 52Secs.
Sabir stood 2nd in this stage, after having yellow shirt in first two stages. Hashmit from AFGHANISTAN stood 3rd. Today [Friday] race will move to Rahim Yar khan from Sukhur.

Muhammad Shabir of WAPDA won the 2nd stage of the 16th Tour de Pakistan International Cycle Race. Shabir covered the distance of 163km.
Shabir also won the first stage of tour de Pakistan cycle race.

Tour De Pakistan cycle race 2011 will start from 8th of March in Karachi. 16th Tour de Pakistan is comprises of 13 stages and will end in Abbottabad on 20th March. Tour De Pakistan is the longest cycling race in Asia. It is based on famous race of tour de france. 
Tour de Pakistan covers 1620 Kilometers. The countries participating in this race are Doha, U.A.E, South Africa, Iran, Afghanistan, SriLanka and Bangladesh. Pakistan is the host also participating. india is not invited in the race. This event will raise the soft image of Pakistan and will appreciate the countries to come in Pakistan in any sports.

Riders from Afghanistan will be the star attraction in next month’s Tour de Pakistan cycle race after Indian cyclists were left out in the cold by organizers, an official said on Saturday.

The 15th Tour de Pakistan, a race modeled on the Tour de France, will be staged from the north-west city of Peshawar to Karachi with 78 cyclists, including 30 from Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Iran and Nepal competing.
